I’m taking part in the Chris W Designs blog tour, an Australian brand of PDF sewing patterns for bags. I thought that could be a great challenge for me to sew a bag …
Christine Welsh, the wonderwoman behind Chris W Designs, provided me a pattern of my choice. I choose Genevieve because of its shape and difficulty.
It was my first time sewing a bag, so I kept it simple. The original pattern offers many options: piping, 2 flap shapes, adjustable strap, two interior slip pockets, a pen pocket and an interior zipper pocket, one slip pocket and one phone pocket on the outside. I chose not to sew the front and phone pockets. I only sewed piping to the bag and not to the flap.
I also decided to use imitation leather, another « first time » for me. I highly recommend using a teflon foot on your sewing machine.
My topstitching could be improved!
The pattern is very easy to follow. Every step is illustrated by pictures. This is such a great pattern!
The fabrics came from my 2 local shops: Textilia and Mondial Textiles.
Pour résumer:
- patron: Genevieve de Chris W Designs disponible ici;
- fournitures: similicuir, thermocollant, molleton thermocollant et biais de Textilia, tissu bleu à motif de Mondial Textiles;
- modifications:
-
- suppression de la poche devant;
- suppression de la poche GSM;
- passepoils uniquement sur les bords extérieurs de la partie sac;
- bretelle en similicuir et tissus cousue selon la méthode classique en insérant un ruban;
- une seule attache;
- difficultés: on ne va pas se mentir, ce sac n’est pas une couture facile. Cependant, c’est très gratifiant d’y parvenir. Les explications sont en anglais, très détaillées. Je n’ai pas eu de difficultés à ce niveau. La difficulté provenait plus du choix du similicuir qui est une matière pas toujours évidente à travailler;
I would like to say a big thank you to Christine for her confidence and her advice.

This tour has been so much fun! I have only made a tote bag so far, with another waiting for me to place the straps. I am following your blog.
J’aimeJ’aime
Give a try! It’s so fun and you are proud when you finish your bag.

Lovely job. You are very brave to step away from cotton fabric for your bag. I’ve seen a couple dozen bags in the last year since I started and they’ve all been with cottons and/or denim. Maybe I’ll give faux leather a try soon- I already have a roller foot packed away in my sewing foot collection. Thanks for the inspiration:)
J’aimeJ’aime
Thank you. Let’s give a try to faux leather because you are a lucky winner of pattern. It’s so satisfying.
